Instructions

  • Bake the Sponge Cake:

    • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
    • Cream butter and sugar together until light and fluffy.

    • In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
    • Alternate adding the dry ingredients and milk into the batter, mixing until smooth.

  • Layer and Cut the Cake:

    • Spread buttercream or jam evenly over the cooled cake.
    • Place a second layer of cake on top, pressing gently.

  • Coat with Fondant:

    • Roll out white fondant and tint portions with food coloring to create pastel shades.
    • Use a thin layer of corn syrup or piping gel to adhere fondant to each cake square.
    • Smooth gently with hands or a fondant smoother, then trim excess fondant.
