Cheesy Hamburger Potato Casserole is the perfect comforting dish made with minimal ingredients. This recipe combines savory ground beef, tender potatoes, and gooey cheese to create an incredibly satisfying meal that is easy to make and loved by everyone.

  • Total Time: 1 hour
  • Yield: 6 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1.5 lbs Ground Beef
  • 2 lbs Potatoes, peeled and diced
  • 1 medium Onion, chopped
  • 2 cups Shredded Cheddar Cheese
  • 1 can (10.75 oz) Condensed Cream of Mushroom Soup
  • 1 cup Milk or beef broth
  • Salt and Pepper to taste
  • Optional: Garlic powder, paprika, or other desired spices

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Ingredients: Dice the potatoes and chop the onion. Grate the cheddar cheese if not using pre-shredded cheese.
  2. Cook the Ground Beef and Onions: In a large skillet, brown the ground beef over medium-high heat. Add the chopped onion and cook until translucent. Drain excess grease and season with salt, pepper, and desired spices.
  3. Assemble the Casserole: Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). In a baking dish, layer half of the diced potatoes, cooked ground beef mixture, and sprinkle with one-third of the cheese. Repeat layers. Mix soup with milk or broth, pour over casserole, and top with remaining cheese.
  4. Bake the Casserole: Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove foil and bake an additional 15-20 minutes until potatoes are tender and cheese is melted. Let it rest before serving.

Notes

  • Ensure potatoes are evenly diced for uniform cooking.
  • Cook ground beef just until browned to avoid dryness.
  • Use high-quality cheddar cheese for best flavor.
  • Adjust seasonings as needed for personal taste.
  • Let casserole rest after baking to help it set.
