Instructions
1. Preparing the Base
- Heat olive oil in a large saucepan over medium heat.
- Add minced garlic and chopped onions. SautΓ© until soft and fragrant, about 3-4 minutes.
2. Adding the Tomatoes
- Stir in crushed San Marzano tomatoes (or prepared fresh tomatoes).
- Add dried oregano, basil, salt, pepper, and optional red wine.
- Reduce heat to low and let simmer for 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens.
3. Seasoning and Finishing Touches
- Taste the sauce and adjust seasoning as needed. Add a pinch of sugar if the sauce is too acidic.
- Stir in fresh basil leaves before serving for a burst of fresh flavor.
4. Storing and Serving
- Let the sauce cool before storing in airtight containers.
- Serve warm over pasta, pizza, or your favorite Italian dish.
