Scale
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 large onion, thinly sliced
- 4 slices rye bread
- 4 slices Swiss cheese (or your preferred cheese)
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Optional: Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, or your favorite burger seasoning
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine ground beef with salt, pepper, and optional seasonings. Form into four patties.
- Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat and cook the patties for 3-4 minutes per side until browned and cooked through.
- Add sliced onions to the skillet and caramelize over medium heat for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
- Butter one side of each rye bread slice. Assemble the sandwich with cheese, patty, onions, and remaining cheese, then grill until golden brown.
- Remove from skillet, let cool slightly, slice in half, and serve.
Notes
- Use high-quality ground beef for maximum flavor.
- Allow onions to caramelize slowly for the best results.
- Generously butter the bread for crispy crust.
- Press down on sandwiches while grilling for even cooking.
- Feel free to experiment with different cheeses and toppings.
