Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup unsalted butter (softened)
- Β½ cup granulated sugar
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- ΒΌ tsp salt
- Gel food coloring (purple, blue, pink, black)
- Toothpicks or skewers (for swirling)
- Edible glitter or luster dust (silver, gold, or holographic)
- White chocolate drizzle (optional)
Instructions
- Cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Gradually mix in flour and salt until the dough comes together. Divide the dough into equal portions and tint each with gel food coloring to create vibrant colors like purple, blue, and pink. Leave one portion plain or lightly tinted gray/black for contrast.
- Roll out small portions of each colored dough into thin ropes. Twist or stack the ropes together, then gently roll them into balls. Flatten slightly and use a toothpick to swirl the colors for a galaxy-like pattern. Avoid overmixing to maintain distinct swirls.
- Place the shaped cookies on a lined baking sheet and bake at 325Β°F (160Β°C) for 12β15 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden. Let cool completely before decorating.
- Dust the cooled cookies with edible glitter or luster dust for a shimmering effect. Optionally, drizzle melted white chocolate over the cookies for added detail.
Notes
- For gluten-free options, substitute gluten-free flour blends.
- Vegan alternative: Use plant-based butter and egg substitutes.
- Freeze colored dough discs for up to 1 month; thaw in the fridge before shaping and baking.
- Avoid overmixing colored doughs to preserve the galaxy swirl effect.
- Chill dough thoroughly before baking to prevent spreading.
