Instructions
1. Baking the Cake Layers
- Prepare the cake batter according to the package instructions, or make your own homemade batter.
- Divide the batter evenly between two round cake pans.
- Bake at the temperature indicated on the box or recipe, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
- Let the cakes cool completely before assembling.
2. Making the Buttercream Frosting
- Beat the softened butter in a large bowl until smooth.
- Gradually add powdered sugar, 1 cup at a time, and beat until fluffy.
- Mix in vanilla extract and heavy cream to achieve a smooth and creamy consistency.
- Add gel food coloring to create the vibrant, mismatched colors for the cake.
3. Decorating the Cake
- Frost the cake with buttercream, starting with a thin layer and smoothing it with an offset spatula.
- Use gel food coloring to create bold, mismatched patterns across the cake.
- Roll out fondant and use letter molds to create the “HAPPEE BIRTHDAE” inscription. Arrange the fondant letters across the top of the cake.
4. Adding Final Touches
- Sprinkle colored sprinkles over the cake for extra flair.
- Lightly dust the cake with gold edible glitter for a magical shimmer.
