  • Total Time: 27 minutes
  • Yield: 12 cookies 1x

Ingredients

Scale

For the Base Cookie Dough:

  • 1 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt

For Optional Mix-Ins:

  • 1 cup chocolate chips (semi-sweet, milk, or white)
  • 1 cup chopped nuts (e.g., walnuts, pecans)
  • ½ cup sprinkles (for funfetti cookies)

For Toppings:

  • Sea salt flakes
  • Drizzled chocolate or caramel sauce

Instructions

1. Prepare the Dough

  1. In a large mixing bowl, cream the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  2. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.

2. Add Dry Ingredients & Mix-Ins

  1. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
  2. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  3. Fold in your chosen mix-ins, such as chocolate chips or nuts.

3. Shape & Bake the Cookies

  1. Scoop large portions of dough (about ¼ cup each) onto a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  2. Slightly flatten each dough ball for even baking.
  3. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 10-12 minutes, or until edges are set but centers are soft.

4. Decorate & Serve

  1. Allow cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
  2. Drizzle with melted chocolate or caramel and sprinkle with sea salt for extra flavor.

Notes

  • Chill the Dough: For thicker cookies, refrigerate the dough for 30 minutes before baking.
  • Storage: Keep in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
  • Gluten-Free Option: Use a 1:1 gluten-free flour substitute.
  • Vegan Alternative: Swap butter for plant-based butter and use an egg replacer.
