Instructions
1. Baking the Cake Layers
- Prepare the cake batter according to package instructions and divide it into separate bowls for different colors (if desired).
- Bake each cake layer separately according to package directions, then allow them to cool completely before assembling.
2. Making the Buttercream Frosting
- Cream the softened butter until smooth. Gradually add powdered sugar, mixing well after each addition.
- Add vanilla extract and heavy cream, continuing to mix until you achieve a light and fluffy frosting. Adjust sweetness by adding more powdered sugar if needed.
- Divide frosting into smaller bowls and tint each with food coloring to match the Hogwarts house colors (red, yellow, green, blue).
3. Assembling the Cake
- Stack the cake layers, spreading a thin layer of frosting between each.
- Apply a crumb coat to seal in any loose crumbs, then smooth the entire cake with a final coat of frosting.
- Add a shimmering effect with edible gold dust or sprinkles to give the cake a magical touch.
4. Decorating the Cake

- Use fondant cutouts, themed decorations, or chocolate ganache drips to create Harry Potter-inspired designs like a lightning bolt, wand, or house symbols.
