  • Total Time: 1 hour (including chilling time)
  • Yield: 24 cookies 1x

Ingredients

Scale

For the Cookies:

  • 2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • ¾ cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips (or your preferred variety)

Optional Add-Ins:

  • 1 cup chopped nuts (e.g., walnuts or pecans)
  • Sea salt flakes (for sprinkling on top before baking)

Instructions

1. Preparing the Dough

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, followed by the vanilla extract.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until just combined.
  5. Gently fold in the chocolate chips (and optional add-ins like nuts).

2. Chilling the Dough

  • Cover the dough with plastic wrap and chill in the fridge for at least 30 minutes (or overnight) to prevent spreading and enhance texture.

3. Shaping the Cookies

  1. Scoop tablespoon-sized portions of dough and roll them into balls.
  2. Space them 2 inches apart on the prepared baking sheet. If desired, flatten the dough balls slightly for more uniform cookies.
  3. Sprinkle with sea salt flakes for a gourmet touch.

4. Baking the Cookies

  1. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are golden and the centers are soft.
  2. For even baking, rotate the baking sheet halfway through.
  3. Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • Storage: Store cookies in an airtight container for up to 1 week.
  • Freezing Tip: Freeze dough balls and bake directly from frozen for a quick treat anytime.
