  • Total Time: 25 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale

For the Dish:

  • 1 lb ground beef (80/20 blend recommended)
  • 8 oz fresh or dried noodles (e.g., lo mein, udon, or spaghetti)
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil (divided)
  • 1 medium onion (thinly sliced)
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 tbsp fresh ginger (grated)

For the Sauce:

  • ¼ cup soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 2 tbsp hoisin sauce
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • ½ cup water or chicken broth
  • 1 tsp cornstarch (mixed with 2 tbsp water for thickening)

For Garnish (Optional):

  • Green onions (chopped)
  • Sesame seeds
  • Red pepper flakes

Instructions

1. Cooking the Noodles

  1. Boil the noodles according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside. If using pre-cooked noodles, briefly rinse them under warm water to loosen.

2. Preparing the Sauce

  1. Whisk together soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, brown sugar, and water (or broth) in a small bowl. Set aside. Mix cornstarch with water in a separate container for later thickening.

3. Sautéing the Ground Beef

  1. Heat 1 tbsp oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add ground beef, breaking it into small pieces with a spatula, and cook until browned and crumbly. Remove beef and set aside.

4. Stir-Frying Vegetables and Combining Everything

  1. In the same pan, add remaining oil, sliced onion, garlic, and ginger. Sauté until fragrant and softened, about 2 minutes.
  2. Return the cooked ground beef to the pan and pour in the prepared sauce. Toss in the cooked noodles, stirring well.
  3. Let the mixture simmer for 3-4 minutes until the sauce thickens and everything is well coated.

Notes

  • Storage: Keep leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat on the stovetop with a splash of water or broth to restore moisture.

  • Prepping in Advance: Prepare the beef and sauce ahead of time, then quickly stir-fry with noodles for a fast meal.
