Ingredients
Scale
- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- ½ tsp salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter (softened)
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 4–6 gel food colors (pastel shades: pink, lavender, mint green, baby blue, yellow, peach)
- Optional: Colored sprinkles, sanding sugar
Instructions
- Cream butter and powdered sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract. Gradually mix in flour, baking powder, and salt until a smooth dough forms. Divide the dough into equal portions (one for each color).
- Tint each portion of dough with a different pastel gel food color. Flatten each portion into a disc, wrap in plastic wrap, and chill for at least 30 minutes to firm up.
- Roll out small portions of each colored dough and stack or twist them together to form a marbled pattern. Gently roll the combined dough into balls and flatten slightly.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake for 10–12 minutes or until edges are lightly golden. Cool on a wire rack before serving.
Notes
- For gluten-free options, substitute gluten-free flour blends.
- Vegan alternative: Use plant-based butter and egg substitutes.
- Freeze colored dough discs for up to 1 month; thaw in the fridge before shaping and baking.
- Avoid overmixing colored doughs to preserve the marbled effect.
- Chill dough thoroughly before baking to prevent spreading.
