  • Total Time: 45 minutes
  • Yield: 6 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale

For the Chocolate Sauce Base:

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 ¾ cups hot water
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

For the Cake-Like Topping:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • ½ cup milk
  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Optional Garnishes:

  • Vanilla ice cream
  • Whipped cream
  • Fresh raspberries or strawberries

Instructions

  • Preparing the Chocolate Sauce Base:

    • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
    • Grease an 8×8-inch baking dish.
    • In a mixing bowl, whisk together granulated sugar, cocoa powder, and hot water until smooth.
    • Stir in vanilla extract and pour the mixture evenly into the prepared baking dish.
  • Making the Cake-Like Batter:

    • In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
    • Add milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract; mix until just combined.
    • Drop spoonfuls of the batter over the chocolate sauce base. Do not stir—the batter will float on top and bake into a soft, cake-like texture.
  • Baking the Cobbler:

    • Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until the top is set and the edges are bubbling.
    • The cobbler will have a molten chocolate sauce at the bottom—this is what makes it so decadent!

  • Serving the Cobbler:

    • Let the cobbler cool for 5–10 minutes before serving.
    • Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream for an extra indulgent touch.
